About Gexcon Certification

Located in Bergen, Norway, Gexcon Certification AS was established in 2017 by Gexcon AS, a company with more than 40 years of experience and research within the field of explosion safety. Our main goal is to provide ATEX certification services using our knowledge and experience in an impartial manner.

As a notified body within ATEX we have a special focus on maintaining and developing our competence within explosion physics paying special attention to ignition hazards, explosion testing and modelling, and the ATEX harmonised standards.

Gexcon Certification AS is 100% owned by Gexcon AS, which in turn is owned by Blast Midco AS and Blast Holding AS (Longship Fund II). Longship is a private equity investor targeting medium sized growth companies in Norway.

ExNBG membership

Gexcon Certification is a member in the group for European coordination of ATEX notified bodies (ExNBG). An important part of the work in ExNBG is to discuss and clarify requirements related to the ATEX Product Directive 2014/34/EU. These clarifications are communicated externally using clarification sheets.

Committee memberships

Gexcon Certification is a member of the Norwegian committee SN/K 187 Ikke-elektrisk utstyr i eksplosjonsfarlige områder (ATEX). The committee follows the standardization work in CEN/TC305 “Potentially explosive atmospheres – Explosion prevention and protection” and representatives from the committee participate in several working groups (WG) under this TC.

Control Committee

The main objective of the control committee is to perform oversight over Gexcon Certification to secure that the company is operated in an impartial manner. The control committee consists of three members representing the following stakeholders: Owners, clients and national authorities.

The committee is entitled to contact the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection and Norwegian Accreditation with information regarding deficiencies or irregularities if the management of Gexcon Certification does not comply with the input from the committee.
